CONCEPT: 4 level space featuring retail, gallery, restaurant & a roof top bar.
Space Ninety 8, Williamsburg (Image 2)
WHY I LIKE IT: Hip area of Brooklyn, Space Ninety 8 offers a diverse offering of shopping, art, eating and drinking. It came as a recommendation and lived up to the expectation of cool space with cool people.
Dover Street Markets, New York (Image 3)
CONCEPT:“I want to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos: the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision.†Concept and Direction by Rei KAWAKUBO
Comme des Garçons @ Dover Street Market Image (Image 4)
WHY I LIKE IT:Progressive fashion. Highly creative in-store shops. Original & Different. I LOVED this space the moment I entered the building. It’s a very special retail concept that presents a piece of highly creative artist with progressive designers in an intimate way. The customer journey is satisfying. And, I feel like this concept is needed in the NY Retail. I’m looking forward to seeing the space evolve and will defiantly stop in for a coffee at Rose Bakery.
STORY, New York (Image 5)
CONCEPT: ‘STORY is a retail concept that takes the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store. That means every four to eight weeks, STORY completely reinvents itself – from merchandise and store design to floor plan and fixtures – to bring to light a new theme, trend, or issue.’
WHY I LIKE IT: Love the idea of a retail concept you can interact, discover and learn from in a modern & relevant way. The idea that the space will change over every few weeks with new products is exciting and interesting. I accidentally discovered this little gem on 10th Avenue and will put it on my must-visit list next trip. That's me in the Selfie-cam! I'm wearing The Greenwich Street Motor Jacket in Chalk White.
The Ace Hotel, New York
CONCEPT: Hip hotel with communal lobby, trendy shops, restaurant, lounges, music events and espresso coffee shop. All while locals do business in the buzzing lobby.
WHY I LIKE IT: I discovered The Ace Hotel on a meeting in the buzzing lobby. Since then, it’s turned into my base when doing business in NYC without the need for an office. I’ve even had a model casting in the lobby once too! I can easily check my emails; have a meeting, stop-in for an Australian-style coffee, quick shop at Opening Ceremony all in one place.
Barneys New York
CONCEPT: A fashion leader in well curated, high-end designer brands who embrace the technology movement in retail space & café
WHY I LIKE IT: Barney’s is a must-stop for me when in NYC! I enjoy the journey on each floor making my way to the top. Discovering the well-edited collections by Rick Owens or Public School to Sea or ALC. My last stop recently has been a glass of vino at Gene’s café. The café layout is one communal bar-style table, which allows you to order and shop from a large screen computer. I also love how interactive the Barney’s window can be with installations combing TV screens & sounds.
